Health classes explained
Preferred Plus, Preferred, Standard Plus, Standard: what they mean and what shifts you from one to the next.
Insurance companies set term prices by rating class. The words shift company to company, but the pecking order stays the same: Preferred Plus (Super Preferred or Preferred Best elsewhere), Preferred, Standard Plus and Standard, then table charges for bigger risks. Smokers have their own stack, pricier.
What underwriters look at
Frame (height to weight), BP and cholesterol, heart and cancer before sixty in the family line, moving violations, prescriptions, your job and leisure time, and anything nicotine-related. The best classification wants nearly everything to check out fine; Preferred allows more latitude; Standard Plus and Standard accept disorders held in check through treatment.
How to use the quote tool
What you tell us—Excellent points to Preferred Plus, Very good to Preferred, Good to Standard Plus and Average to Standard—gets baked into your quote; the carrier verifies the final mark through underwriting. Test yourself with two classes and view them side by side, then let the application sort it out. Picking a rosier class doesn't lower your final bill; it just makes the estimate wrong.
Susman Insurance Agency can help find carriers that look more kindly on whatever your situation is, which matters more than the sticker price.
